A Typical Day At
Camp St. Iakovos
A New Orthodox Summer Camp In Oklahoma
We have an exciting week of activities planned for Camp St. Iakovos! No two days will be the same, but every moment will be packed with fun. Our hope is to enhance the classic American sleep-away camp experience with the richness of the Orthodox faith.
-
Morning Activities
After a hearty breakfast, campers will rotate through morning activities with their cabins. In Orthodox Life, they will receive instruction in the Faith. During Art they'll get creative, and take part in an icon painting workshop.
-
Music
Campers of all ages gather together in the Sanctuary to engage in a core aspect of Orthodox life - music! Special guests will lead everyone in different types of song including Georgian chant and classic camp songs.
-
Siesta
Named after the Spanish tradition of an extended rest period after lunch, Camp St. Iakovos also provides campers with down time following the afternoon meal. Use this rest period to sleep, journal, read, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
-
Athletics
In the afternoons the Brotherhood of St. Iakovos will join campers to play basketball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, and other classic games. Run, kick, slide, and score with new friends under the Oklahoma sun!
-
Free Time
Campers can use their free time in a variety of ways. Play backyard games like Cornhole and Jenga, make friendship bracelets, talk with friends and counselors, or simply enjoy the outdoors.
-
Vespers
The evening service of Vespers is rich in instruction and praise. It allows us to reflect on the day that has passed, prepares us for the sleep of the night, and helps us look forward to the dawn of a new day.
Prayers + Devotions
As the evening turns into night, campers engage in prayer, reflection, and meaningful discussion with the Fathers of St. Iakovos Monastery.
